The salt kiln is operational; the wood fired kiln that stood on the concrete pad at the south end of the Olin Center has been relocated to the eastern part of campus and is likewise fully operational. |
Ceramics at Concordia fosters the creative exploration of clay. In Ceramics 330 and Ceramics 403, basic hand building and wheel throwing techniques, along with the processes of glazing and firing clay, are introduced. Students produce works in stoneware, raku and saggered fired earthenware. In addition, students mix clay, formulate glazes and fire kilns. The Ceramics facilities include a large, well-equipped main studio, ten potters' wheels, one 28 cu. ft. gas kiln, one 10 cu. ft. gas kiln, two electric kilns, and separate clay mixing and glazing rooms. The Ceramics area at Concordia is directed by Ross Hilgers, MFA. Professor Hilgers specializes in ceramic sculpture. Please click the links below in order to fully visit the ceramics area.
