The physics department at Concordia offers a departmental honors degree. The requirements for departmental honors are listed below.

Students must have a minimum GPA in the major of 3.30 at the time of graduation in order to be eligible for physics departmental honors.

In order to receive departmental honors in physics the student must complete an honors project involving significant work in theory or experiment beyond that normally expected of students in Junior/Senior advanced undergraduate physics laboratory classes (such as Physics 326). A formal paper describing the project, surveying the appropriate literature on the topic and discussing the results must be submitted. A public presentation of the work is also required.

All projects must be approved in advance by the department chair. The department as a whole will evaluate projects. Awarding department honors requires the unanimous approval of all full-time physics faculty.

Students may enroll in Independent Study (Physics 480) for a maximum of 1.0 course credit in conjunction with departmental honors project. All ordinary requirements for an independent study project apply.
