Gameday Game Recap:

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (10/25/08)-- It's too bad the Cobber men's soccer team doesn't play every team in the MIAC twice. If that was the case, Concordia might have a chance to move up in the conference standings and make a bid for the playoffs. As it is, CC will have to settle for posting their best record in several seasons and finishing the season on a full sprint.

Concordia scored a goal in each half and came away with a 2-1 win over Bethel in Arden Hills on Saturday. The victory is the fourth straight for CC and evens their overall record at 8-8 on the year. It is the latest the Cobbers have been at the .500 mark since they finished with a 12-4 record. Concordia is now 3-6 in MIAC play. The Royals are now 4-12 overall and 1-8 in league play.

Add senior forward Justin Foss to the list of people that would like the Cobber season to be extended. After starting the season on a snail's pace in the scoring department, Foss has turned into Usain Bolt late in the season and is on a dream-like tear. Foss scored both Cobber goals against Bethel and has now scored eight goals in the last five games. He has also scored two goals in three of those games. Foss now has 13 goals on the season which leads the MIAC. The 13 goals is also the second most in Cobber men's soccer history. Second only to former MIAC MVP Peter Curry who had 16 goals in 1994. Foss also has 28 points on the year which is third best in the MIAC.

In the game against the Royals, CC gave up the first goal of the game but then rallied to score two unanswered goals to earn the win. Andreas Scott gave Bethel a 1-0 lead at the 10:11 mark. Concordia would counter with the game-tying goal at 21:27 as Foss got the first of his two goals. He then scored the game-winning goal with less than six minutes to play in the second half. His tally at 84:26 sealed the victory for the Cobbers. Riley McGlynn and Kyle Quimby were credited with the assists on the play.

The Cobbers outshot Bethel 19-14 in overall shots and 14-12 in shots on goal. Foss had a game-high five shots for CC. Concordia goalie Mads Schmidt made 11 saves to earn his eighth win of the year. Nick Kantor stopped 12 shots in the losing effort.

Concordia will finish off the 2008 season by hosting the University of Mary on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. and then playing at St. John's on Saturday, Nov.1 at 2:30 p.m.
