Gameday Game Recap

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (10/24/10)-- Even though they were in another state and against a first-time opponent, Concordia continued their hot streak as they beat Fontbonne (Mo.) 1-0 in overtime in St. Louis on Sunday. Riley McGlynn scored the game-winning goal just 1:15 into the first extra period to keep CC unbeaten in its last 10 games.

The Cobbers are now 12-3-1 overall and one win away from tying the program record for most wins in a single season. The victory is also the fourth straight for Concordia who has not lost since Sept. 15.

Playing against the Griffins for the first time in program history, the Cobbers battled through 90 minutes of solid soccer. Concordia had the edge in stats and possession for the game due to a Fontbonne player being sent off in the 20th minute of the game. The Cobbers hammered away at the Griffin defense in the first half and came away with an 11-1 edge in shots for the first 45 minutes.

The second half was more of the same as Concordia attacked in waves and Fontbonne (5-5-6) was content to sit back and wait for a counter attack. The Cobbers weren't able to score despite putting up 10 more shots and finishing the game with 12 shots on goal.

The game was decided in the second minute of overtime when Kyle Quimby won the ball and found McGlynn running at the Griffin defense. Quimby played the ball to McGlynn who fired a shot past the Fontbonne goalie and into the net for the game winner.

McGlynn's goal at 91:15 is his MIAC-leading 13th of the season. He now has 36 points on the year and is six shy of tying the program record of 42 set by Peter Curry in 1994.

For the game, the Cobbers outshot Fontbonne 22-4 in overall shots and 13-1 in shots on goal. CC keeper Peter Runquist made the one save to pick up his third straight shutout. Zach Will made 12 saves for the Griffins.

Concordia will now face Washington Univ. (Mo.) on Monday in St. Louis in the second game of their annual mid-semester break trip. The Bears are currently ranked 15th in the nation and 11-1-3 on the year.
