COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- A change in scenery produced the same results as Concordia gave up three goals in each half and lost 6-1 to Virginia Wesleyan in a game played in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The trend of allowing back-to-back goals less than seven minutes apart also followed the Cobbers westward. Concordia allowed the first set of goals at 9:04 and 12:25 and then conceded two more goals at the 41:40 and 47:19 marks.
The lone goal came courtesy of a "highlight reel" strike from Matt Klein. Klein took a dead ball from well outside the penalty area and buried it in the back of the net.
For the game, the Cobbers were outshot 22-8 by the Marlins. Virginia Wesleyan also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Concordia goalie Dustin Pattengale made five saves in the losing effort. Marlins starting keeper Kyle Williams played the first 71:15, made two saves and earned his eighth win of the year. Backup goalie Josh Duncan was not called upon to make a stop in his 18:45 of action.
Concordia will play Colorado College on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon (CST).
