MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/06/08)-- Concordia used a single goal by three different sophomores to cruise past UW-River Falls 3-1 in the team's home opener on Saturday. The win pushes CC's unbeaten streak to two games and keeps them unbeaten in 2008 with a 2-0-1 record. The Falcons lose for the third straight time to start the season and fall to 0-3.

Brittany Mayer, Sam Johnson and Susan Obermiller all scored for the Cobbers and all three came from different distances. Mayer opened the scoring with a cracking shot from 35 yards out that fell over the top of River Falls goalie Rachel Thompson and slid just under the crossbar. The goal at 18:02 gave Concordia a 1-0 lead.

Johnson's goal at 46:18 came from just on top of the six-yard box after she poked home a shot from a cross from sophomore midfielder Abby Habein. For Johnson it was her third goal in the past two games. Obermillers' tally came from 16 yards out after she cut across the left side of goal and pounded a shot into the far side netting of the goal. The goal was Obermiller's first of the season and it came at 64:52.

UW-River Falls scored their only goal of the game at 56:51. Kristen George fed the ball to teammate Eryn Lansverk who found herself behind the CC defense and in front of onrushing Concordia keeper Britt Reiersgord. Lansverk then tapped the ball around Reiersgord and slid the ball into the empty net.

For the game Concordia outshot River Falls 21-7 and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. reiersgord made two saves in the net for CC. The falcons split the goalkeeping duties between Thompson and Emily Stieler. Thompson played the first half and stopped three shots while Stieler played the final 45 minutes and made four saves.

The Cobbers will cap their home-opening weekend when they host UW-Oshkosh on Sunday at 10 a.m.
