Women's Outdoor Track and Field

- Three Concordia athletes provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Meet at the Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday, Apr. 15. Katherine Brott (Fr., Deer Lodge, Mont./Powell County HS) came up with a mark of 136-10 in the javelin, Emily Davis (Fr., Litchfield, Minn.) had a toss of 141-6 in the discus and Valerie Glynn (Fr., Fullerton, N.D./Ellendale HS) recorded a distance of 36-11 in the triple jump. Brott is currently ranked first in the MIAC in the javelin and fifth in the nation. Her toss of 136-10 is also the second farthest in program history.


Baseball (13-12/6-8 MIAC; lost to Hamline 11-5 & 5-2/swept St. John's 6-1 &

9-6/split with St. Olaf 3-0 & 0-5/lost at Bethel 8-4 & 5-4)


- Cobber catcher Kyle Johnson (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) had at least one hit in all ten games last week and extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Johnson hit .481 last week and pounded out four home runs and collected 11 RBI’s. He is currently leading the MIAC in slugging percentage (1.024), hits (23), RBI’s (18), home runs (4) and total bases (43) in league games.

- Sophomore pitcher Eddie Massee (Appleton, Minn./Lac Qui Parle Valley) picked up his first win of the season on Sunday against St. Olaf. Massee threw a three-hit shutout against the Oles. It was the first time this season that the Oles had been shut out in conference play.

- Adam Johnson (So., Pelican Rapids, Minn.) leads the MIAC in earned runs average and opponent’s batting average in conference games. Johnson has a 1.00 ERA and has held opponent’s to a scant .143 batting average. He has not allowed only one extra-base hit in his 18.0 innings of work.


Fastpitch Softball (7-23/4-12 MIAC; lost to Bethel 9-4 & 4-3/lost to St. Thomas 9-0 & 12-2/swept Macalester 6-4 & 4-3/lost to Hamline 2-1 & 3-2)


- Concordia junior catcher Amanda Michaelson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit .407 in the team’s 10 games last week. She helped the Cobbers post a 4-6 record during that stretch. She had three doubles and a home run last week and collected 17 total bases.

- Cobber pitcher Erin Johnson (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo HS) posted an earned run average of 2.62 in the seven games she pitched last week. Johnson was 3-4 in those games and held opponent’s to a hitting average of .292.


Men's Tennis (8-11/2-7 MIAC; lost at Carleton 9-0)

- Concordia senior Wills Wischer (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) finished off his career by winning 39 matches in his four seasons. In 2008 he won 10 singles matches, the second highest of his career.

- Concordia finished the year with a 5-1 record at home but went 0-7 on the road.


Women's Tennis (5-12/1-9 MIAC; lost at Carleton 6-3)

- Cobber freshman Melanie Gail (Madison, Minn./Lac Qui Parle Valley HS) became the first Concordia women’s singles player to win 10 singles matches in a year since the 1995 season when Heather Sandberg led the team with 12 victories. Gail ended her first year of collegiate play with an 11-6 mark.

- Concordia senior Kelsey Schendel (Willmar, Minn.) capped her career by winning her 20th career singles match. Schendel posted a 6-3, 6-1 win against Carleton on Sunday to earn the milestone victory.


Men's Outdoor Track and Field (2nd Place at Cobber Twilight/competed at the Kansas Relays and the UN-Morris Invite)

- Concordia had two athletes win individual events at the Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday. Paul Westmark (Jr., Appleton, Wis.) ran a 58.03 in the 400-meter hurdles and won the event by less than .50 seconds. Joining Westmark on the winners stand for Concordia was senior Steve Astrup (Dilworth, Minn./Moorhead HS) who posted a time of 35.40.38 in the 10,000 meters.

- The Concordia 110-meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Westmark, Marly Simmons (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.), Perry Patterson (So., Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS) and Paul Shol (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) ran a 1:04.61 at the Kansas Relays over the weekend. That time is the second fastest in school history and only .16 of a second off of the record.

- Cobber sophomore Jeff Bakke (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) won the javelin competition at the UM-Morris Invite on Saturday. Bakke had a meet-best toss of 157-04 and won the ven by almost 10 feet. Bakke is currently ranked sixth in the MIAC in the event.

- Cobber freshman Hailey Brenden (Rothsay, Minn.) ran a 38:14.68 in the 10,000-meter run at the Kansas Relays and finished fourth in the college division. Her time is the fastest in the MIAC this season.

- Concordia had four athletes win individual events at the UM-Morris on Saturday. Glynn won the triple jump competition. She was joined by Kendra Bengtson (Jr., Avon, Minn./Albany HS) who won the 3000-meter steeplechase, Leah Kay (So., Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) who won the high jump and Kristen Warren (Fr., Oakes, N.D.) who captured the javelin title.


Men's Golf (10th Place at the Bobby Krig Invite hosted by Gustavus)
- Cobber senior Drew Dvorak (Litchfield, Minn.) finished in 14th place at the recently completed Bobby Krig Inviational. Dvorak is trying to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament held at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga. on May 13-16.

- Concordia finished in 10th place at the Bobby Krig Invitational host by Gustavus on Monday and Tuesday. The Cobbers shot a final team score of 952. They were in ninth place after the first day but then dropped one spot after the completetion of the second day. CC will now compete in the St. John's Inviational held at the Monticello Country Club on Apr. 27.


Women's Golf (8th Place at the MWCGA State Tournament Meet)

- Concordia finished eighth at the MWCGA State Tournament held at Pebble Creek GC in Becker, Minn. last weekend. The Cobbers were led by Afton Pender (Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) who fired a two-round total of 167 and finished in a tie for 14th place.
