Top Note
Women's Tennis
- Concordia beat the University of Mary 7-2 on Saturday to earn their eighth win in the first nine matches of the season. Their 8-1 start is the best beginning to a season in 20 years. This year’s team bettered the 7-1 start posted by the 2002 team.


Men's Basketball (11-14/7-12 MIAC - END OF SEASON)

- Concordia head coach Rich Glas’ former assistant coach, and player, at the University of North Dakota Ben Jacobson will lead the University of Northern Iowa into the NCAA Division I Tournament on Thursday against Purdue. Jacobson played for Glas at UND from 1989-93. He then went on to become a graduate assistant and full-time assistant with the Fighting Sioux. Glas was Jacobson’s director of basketball operations at the University of Northern Iowa for two seasons prior to coming to Concordia.

Baseball (0-1 - Did Not Play)

- Concordia will play eight games in Arizona beginning on Wednesday, Mar. 18, The Cobbers will play doubleheaders against UW-LaCrosse, SUNY-New Paltz, Luther and Knox (Ill.) in the RussMatt Invitational.


Fastpitch Softball (5-9 - Did Not Play)


Men's Tennis (3-5/1-3 MIAC - beat Univ. of Mary 8-1)

- Concordia beat the University of Mary 8-1 on Saturday to earn their first home win of the season. The Cobbers have won two of their last three matches and are now 3-5 on the season.

- The Cobber’s No.1 doubles team of Matt Edin (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS) and Kirby Johnson (Jr., Crookston, Minn.) earned their team-leading third win of the season. The two won 8-2 against the University of Mary’s top doubles tandem. They have won two of their past three matches by identical 8-2 scores.


Women's Tennis (8-1/2-1 MIAC - beat Univ. of Mary 7-2)

- Concordia beat the University of Mary 7-2 on Saturday to earn their eighth win in the first nine matches of the season. Their 8-1 start is the best beginning to a season in 20 years. This year’s team bettered the 7-1 start posted by the 2002 team.

- Concordia sophomore Melanie Gail (Madison, Minn./Lac Qui Parle Valley HS) remained unbeaten on the year as she posted a 6-4, 6-4 win at No.3 singles against the University of Mary on Saturday. Gail is now 5-0 on the season.

- The Cobbers continue to have success in doubles play this season. Concordia won all three doubles matches against the University of Mary and has won five of their last six doubles contests. Overall, CC is 20-7 in doubles play in 2009.


Men's Track & Field (finished 5th at the MIAC Indoor Meet)

- Concordia Seniors Paul Westmark (Appleton, Wis.) and Paul Shol (Fergus Falls, Minn.) finished in the top 15 in the pentathlon at the recently completed NCAA Division III National Indoor Meet. It was the first national meet appearance for both athletes.


Women's Track & Field (finished 6th at the MIAC Indoor Meet)

- Concordia junior Leah Kay (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) earned her first national indoor All-American award this past weekend. Kay finished in a tie for eighth place in the pentathlon at the NCAA Division III national Indoor Meet. It is the third All-American honor in her career as she earned All-American honors in both the heptathlon and high jump at the national outdoor meet last season.

- Kay was also named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Region Athlete of the Year. Kay entered the national meet ranked fifth in the nation in the pentathlon with a score of 3,314 points. She was also ranked in the top 15 of the nation in the high jump heading into the NCAA DIII Meet.
