2/24 Concordia Survives the Weather
at the Bethel Invitational.
After sending a split-squad to the Eric Lidell Invitational and coming away with several top performances, Concordia became stranded in a winter storm. The Cobbers had to stop in Alexandria to stay the night, after Highway 94 was closed due to a late February blizzard.
At the Invite held at Bethel earlier in the day, the Cobbers continued to flex their muscles in the middle distances as Steve Edlund (Sr., Cyrus, MN) won the 1500 Meters in a time of 4:07.22. Teammates Chris Goebel (Sr., Albany, MN) and Ben Nylander (Fr., Lisbon, ND) finished third and fourth.
Adam Strainer (Sr., East Helena, MT), preparing to defend his conference Pentathlon crown next weekend, won the Triple Jump with a mark of 45'7". Strainer also finished second in the Long Jump with a distance of 21'8" and sixth in the High Jump at 6'1 1/4". Other top performers for Concordia included the 4x400 Meter Relay team of Strainer, Scott Chastek (Jr., Glencoe, MN), Nick Steffens (So., Aitkin, MN) and Jeff Hertel (Sr., Fargo, ND) who finished second with a time of 3:31.36. Mark D finished fifth in the 1000 with a time of 2:43.20, and Joe Schmidgall (Jr., Morris, MN) and Paul Poduska (Jr., Fort Collins, CO) tied for fourth in the High Jump at 6' 3 1/4".
Concordia will train for the week, before heading to St. John's to compete
at the MIAC Indoor Championships. Last year they finished second at the
