7/12  Deb Lien Resigns as Head Women's Hockey Coach at Concordia College
Concordia Women's Hockey Coach Deb Lien resigns after coaching the women's hockey team for three years, two as a varsity program and one as a club team. She was the first women's hockey coach in school history.

Concordia-Moorhead athletic director, Dr. Armin Pipho, announced that second year head women's hockey coach Deb Lien has resigned her position at Concordia effective August 1st. She was also the assistant women's softball coach and an instructor in the physical education department. Lien is  stepping down to take another full-time position in a different career field.

Lien was the first women's hockey coach in school history, and compiled a record of 22-24-1 in her two seasons as coach. She was also the head coach for the Concordia women's club team that participated during the 1989-99 school year. Last season Lien guided the team to a sixth place finish in the MIAC and narrowly missed out on the league playoffs in the final weekend of the year.

Lien , a 1988 graduate of Warroad High School, earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education from NDSU in 1994, with minors in coaching, Math Education and Health Education.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Concordia," Lien said, "and I have enjoyed the opportunity to build the women's hockey program here. I wish Concordia the best of luck in the coming seasons and will follow them throughout the upcoming season."

Dr. Pipho said, "We are very sorry to see Deb leave our staff. She was the guiding influence behind the women's team in it's infancy, and did an outstanding job in helping Concordia start a successful program."

Pipho added, "A search for Lien's replacement will begin immediately."
