Cory Winter (Fr., Cannon Falls, MN) gave the Cobbers a 3-0 lead early,
as he won by decision over Adam Toso 4-1. The Dragons then proceeded to
win eight of the next nine matches and pull away for the win. The lone

Cobbers Battle Dragons
The Teams:
Concordia (0-0 in Duals)
MSU-Moorhead (4-2 in Duals)
The Preview:
Concordia is coming off the Cobber Open where they placed several
wrestlers in the semifinals and
had several impressive matches that were determined in the last seconds
or by narrow margins. Zack Schroeder (Sr., Wahpeton, ND) and Jesse Barnacle
(Fr. Deer River, MN) continue to lead the Cobbers. Schroeder lost a grueling
semifinal match at 133 to Reese Boehm of NDSU in the closing seconds, and
Barnacle lost in the finals at 157 to Lance Wurm of NDSU. (Wurm is a 3-time
MN State High School Champion). This is Concordia's first dual meet of
the year.
MSU-Moorhead is coming off an outstanding outing at the Terry Haws Dual
Meet (@ St. John's University) Tournament. The Dragons won the tournament
by beating Southwest State in the championship match 19-18. They also posted
victories over Dakota Wesleyan 27-18 and host St. John's 27-12. MSU-Moorhead
is 4-2 in dual meets.
Besides the wins at the tournament they have also beaten Truman State
47-3. Their losses have come against the University of Mary 27-9 and NCAA
Division III powerhouse Augsburg 31-11.
The Marquee Matches:
The duel at 133 should be a great match as the Cobbers send 1999 All
MIAC wrestler Zack Schroeder (Sr., Wahpeton) to the mat against either
Jerry Pihlaja (Fr., Osage, MN) or Shawn Larson (So., Wolf Point, MT).
The other showdown will be at 157 where Concordia's Jesse Barnacle (Fr.,
Deer River, MN) will tangle with either Ashkan Morvari (Anchorage,
AK) or Ethan Kalita (North Pole, AK). Barnacle beat Kalita in a terrific
match at the Cobber Open 5-4 in OT. Morvari is a returning letter winner.
The Little Known Facts:
Concordia had a banner recruiting year as they have nine freshmen on
their roster. Moorhead has five players on their roster from Alaska, including
Ethan Kalita who hails from North Pole, AK.
