Concordia seniors Kathy Braun (Willmar, Minn.) and Jill Pontius (Eagle Bend, Minn.) were named to the women's softball MIAC All-Conference Team. It is the first time that both players have been awarded the honor. The two led Concordia to a fourth place league finish and for their careers, finished with a 49-38 MIAC mark and a 72-62 overall record.
Braun, who played in 30 of the team's 32 games, hit .379 this year - the highest average in her four-year career at Concordia. She led the team in stolen bases (5) and finished second in batting average, hits (36), home runs (5) and RBI's (19). She also finished the year by only committing six errors in 146 chances as the teams' secondbaseman. In MIAC play, Braun finished third in the league in slugging percentage (.754), second in home runs (5), tied for third in total bases (46) and ninth in on-base percentage (.448).
Pontius finally receives all-conference accolades after being named to the MIAC Honorable Mention Team in her sophomore and junior seasons. She hit .447 this year, the second highest average in school history. Besides batting average, she led the team in hits (38), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.718) and on-base percentage (.467). Her slugging percentage of .718 is also a new school record.
Pontius, a four-year starter at catcher, played in 27 games this year without committing an error, which led all MIAC catchers. She also led the league in throwing out runners attempting to steal.
At the plate, Pontius was second in the MIAC in slugging percentage
(.774), tied for fourth in home runs (4), tied for fifth in RBI's (18)
and ninth in total bases.
