March 19, 2002 Posted 1:00 PM CST
MOORHEAD -- Concordia-Moorhead College women's hockey coach Arnie Caplan announced his resignation today. Caplan will continue to teach in the Physical Education Department until the end of the year. Caplan was in his first year as head coach and guided the team to a fourth place finish in the MIAC.
Caplan explained the decision by stating, "In discussion with Dr. Armin Pipho, I have decided to resign as head coach of the Concordia women's hockey program at the end of the academic year."
He discussed the timing of the issue by commenting, "I feel that by doing so now, it will give the new coach an opportunity to be in contact with recruits and the program will benefit from the strong recruiting class. I really enjoyed my experience at Concordia and wish the program every success in the future."
Concordia's athletic director Dr. Armin Pipho commented that "Coach Caplan has demonstrated a strong work ethic and commitment to our women's hockey program. The team's record of 13-8-1, fourth place finish in the MIAC and a run in the MIAC playoffs are great accomplishments for a third-year program."
Pipho closed by saying "I wish Arnie Caplan the best as he pursues other career opportunities."
A search for a new coach will begin immediately. Interested applicants
