Fr. Coleharbor, N.Dak. Ran a season-best 2:23.1 in the 800 meters at the St. Ben's Quadrangular to win the event. |
In a tune-up meet before the MIAC Championships, Concordia finished second at the St. Ben's Quadrangular. Competing against three other MIAC schools, the Cobbers finished only nine points behind St. Ben's, who won the event with 160 points. Concordia bettered conference foes Gustavus and Macalester. The same teams will battle it out next weekend at the MIAC Indoor Championships at Carleton.
As a team, the Cobbers won five different events. The highlights of the meet for Concordia came in the middle distance events, where Carrie Franson (Fr., Coleharbor, N.Dak.) and Lisa Owen (So., Minot, N.Dak.) set marks for the years low times in the 800 and 1000 meter runs. Franson lowered her own mark by over five seconds in the 800. Her time of 2:23.1 is the best of the indoor year for the first year runner, who continues to improve. Owen dropped her best effort in the 1000 by three full seconds.
Other event winners for Concordia included the 4x400 relay team of Sheena
Berg (Fr., Barnesville, Minn.), Franson, Kari Rosenfeldt (Jr.,
Moorhead, Minn.) and Kendra Lee (Jr., Jamestown, N.Dak.) who finished
in a time of 4:17.01, which is the fastest by a Cobber squad this year.
Kelli
Tranby (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) won the long jump with a leap of 17-8
1/4, and is the favorite to win the event at the MIAC Championships.
Becky
Lacher (Sr., Princeton, Minn.) won the weight throw with a toss of
46-5 1/4, and teammate Mariah Mougey (Jr., Enderlin, N.Dak.) finished
second with a mark of 45-10.
