Named to the NCAA DIII Midwest All-Region 2nd Team.
Sacred Heart, Minn.
Named to the NCAA DIII Midwest All-Region Honorable Mention Team.
Derek Dormanen (Sr., Menahga, Minn./Menahga HS) was named to the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-American Team, and Jeremy Hinderks (Jr., Renville, Minn./Renville County West HS) and Ryan Hebrink (Jr., Sacred Heart, Minn./Renville County West HS) were named to the All-Midwest Region Team. Dormanen earned first team All-Region honors and was named to the All-American third team as a utility player, due to his sharing time at both the pitcher and third base positions. Hinderks earned second team All-Region honors as a pitcher and Hebrink was named to the All-Region Honorable Mention Team as a first baseman.
Dormanen capped off his stellar four-year career by being only the fourth baseball player in the history of Concordia College to earn All-American Honors. Earlier this month, Dormanen was named the Most Valuable Player in the MIAC - he was only the third player in school history to garner that award.
It is the first time that Dormanen has earned All-American status, and the second time in his four-year career at Concordia that he has earned All-Region honors. He was the only player from the MIAC to earn All-American honors.
After graduating in early May, Dormanen signed a contract to play professional baseball, and is now playing with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the Northern League (a non-affiliated minor league baseball league).
The team's starting third baseman and top relief pitcher, Dormanen led Concordia with a .366 batting average and set a school record with nine saves. In the team's 20 league games he hit .380 and led the MIAC in saves with eight. He appeared in a league-high 13 games, and his strikeout-to-innings pitched ratio of (1.12) led the league. He also led the league in runs scored with 24 and finished eighth in earned run average with a 2.10 conference mark.
Hinderks had a breakout season in 2003. The MIAC's top starting pitcher, he was named to the MIAC All-Conference team for the first time in his career earlier this month. He finished the regular season with a school-record, nine victories - and his ERA of 2.85 was the lowest of his career. He led the conference in number of starts (8), finished second in total strikeouts (37) and was fifth in innings pitched (41.1). At one time during the year, Hinderks had a streak of 29.2 innings pitched without giving up an earned run. He finished the regular season with 66.1 innings pitched which is only 1/3 of an inning shy of the school record.
Hebrink had a dominating season at the plate and was also named to the
2003 MIAC All-Conference Team. He tied the school record for home runs
(9) and RBI's in a season (43), and was the conference leader in both categories.
He is also tied for school record in career home runs and will still have
one season left to play. His .820 league slugging percentage was almost
50 percentage points higher than the next player. He finished the regular
season with a batting average of .336 which was second only to Dormanen.
