Cobbers Rally to Win Game 2, Split Home-Opening Series.
Becky Bouwman (Sr. Glenwood, Minn.) grimaces after she connects on a pitch in game one against Augsburg.

Series Recap
(MOORHEAD)--- Concordia was able to scratch a come-from-behind victory in game two to salvage a split in their home-opening doubleheader against Augsburg. The Cobbers relinquished a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning in game one and lost 6-4 in the 10th inning. In the nightcap, the Auggies put up five runs in the first inning but Concordia was able to claw their way back and win the game 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out double by senior Jill Faltau (Perham, Minn./Perham HS).

Stacie Johnson (Sr., Belgrade, Minn./BBE HS) was the offensive star for the Cobbers in the opening game as she belted out a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to stake Concordia (1-3 MIAC, 5-10) to a 4-0 lead. It was Johnson's third home run of the season. In the top of the seventh, the Auggies took advantage of two costly errors and tied the game at 4-4. Augsburg (1-5 MIAC, 4-16) eventually won the game in the top of the tenth inning when Concordia committed two more errors that helped Augsburg score two runs and put the game out of reach at 6-4.

Jamie Bang (Fr., Hermantown, Minn/Hermantown HS) set the tone for the Cobbers offensively in game one from her leadoff spot. Bang was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases. Concordia outhit Augsburg in game one 9-5.

Augsburg continued their momentum in the nightcap as they put up five runs in the opening inning. Concordia countered quickly by posting five of their own in the bottom half.  Johnson hit her second home run of the doubleheader to get the Cobber attack started. Her two-run blast scored the team's first two runs. After the home run, the next five Concordia batters reached base and helped tie the game at 5-5.

After the Auggies tacked on a single run in the second inning, Concordia scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to open a 6-5 lead. Augsburg scored the tying run in the top of the seventh inning when another Cobber error led to the game-tying score. Concordia won the game in their last at-bat when Krystle Abrahamson (Fr., Olivia, Minn./BOLD HS) reached on a fielders choice after Johnson had singled and Flatau came through with the game-winning, walkoff double.

Flatau went 3-for-3 in the nightcap and 4-for-7 in the doubleheader. She improves her batting average to .375, which currently leads the team. Besides Flatau and Johnson's offensive output, two first-year players had mulitple-hit games for Concordia. Megan Luther (Park Rapids, Min/Park Rapids Area HS) went 2-for-3 and had a lone RBI, and Sam Parker (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.

Concordia will play at St. Ben's on Wednesday, April 9 at 4:00pm and then travel to St. Paul to play at Bethel on Thursday, April 10 at 4:00pm.
