Cobbers "Bang" Out a Split Against St. Olaf.

(MOORHEAD)-- Concordia pounded out 16 hits and 13 runs in the second
game of the doubleheader with St. Olaf and salvaged a split in the series.
The Cobbers were undone by three costly errors in the opener and fell 6-2
before exploding in the nightcap to win 13-3 in a game that lasted only
five innings due to the league's eight-run rule.
The offensive hero of the day for Concordia (3-7, MIAC, 7-14) was first-year sensation Jamie Bang (Fr., Hermantown, Minn/Hermantown HS), who went 8-for-8 and hit her first collegiate home run. Of Bang's 25 hits on the year, it was only her second of the extra-base variety. With the eight hits, Bang raised her team-leading average to .431. Steph Boesche (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) picked up the lone win for Concordia, pitching five innings and giving up only two earned runs. Jill Flatau (Sr., Perham, Minn./Perham HS) continued her hot hitting streak as she went 3-for-3 in the second game. She drove in four runs and hit her first home run of the season in the Cobber rout.
In the first game, St. Olaf (3-5 MIAC, 4-12) scored three runs in the third and tacked on two more in the fourth to surge to a 5-0 lead. In the three-run third inning, the Cobbers committed two errors after their were two outs in the inning and allowed the Ole's to put up the trio of runs with only a pair of hits. All five of St. Olaf's runs in the third and fourth innings came after there were two outs.
The Cobbers scored their only runs of the game in the fifth inning when they strung five singles together and scratched a pair of runs. St. Olaf answered with a single run in the top of the sixth and then held Concordia scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings to come away with the 6-2 win.
Concordia had 11 hits in the first game but stranded nine runners over the course of the seven innings. Besides Bang's 4-for-4 output, Mandy Pearson (So., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) and Becky Bouwman (Sr., Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska HS) each had a pair of hits for Concordia. Gretta Stritesky went the distance on the mound - allowing three earned runs and walking only one.
The second game was over before the end of the first inning. Concordia scored eight times in the opening frame. In the inning, they collected seven hits and sent 11 batters to the plate. Bang had two hits in the inning, including her rocket-shot over the right field fence.
Concordia added two more in the second and three in the third to take a 13-1 lead after three innings. The Ole's were able to come up with two runs in the top of the fifth but couldn't avoid having the game called because of the eight-run rule.
Concordia will host St. Catherine on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00pm. That
doubleheader will finish off a stretch where the Cobbers played 10 games
in six days.
