Bobby
Clark #6 (Sr., Seeley Lake, Mont.) will be hoping to get away from
the MSU-Moorhead defense in the 81st Power Bowl. |
Welcome to the 5th annual Power Bowl which features one of the greatest
rivalries in small college football. This year's clash between the Cobbers
and Dragons is the 81st meeting between the two rival schools. Concordia
holds a 45-23-12 edge over MSU-Moorhead. The series dates back to 1920
when MSU-Moorhead, then known as Moorhead Normal, won 21-0. The Dragons
hold a 7-3 edge in the past 10 years. All three of the Cobber wins have
been at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
Last Year:
Last season the Dragons forced three crucial turnovers, and pulled
away in the second half to come away with a 41-17 victory. The
Cobbers gave the Dragons a "short field" on three separate occasion following
turnovers and each time MSU-Moorhead converted the mistake into seven points.
The Cobbers trailed 21-10 at the break, but were forced to go against
a howling Red River wind in the deciding third quarter. MSU-Moorhead rattled
off 14 unanswered points to push the margin to 25 points at the end
of the third quarter. The Cobbers could only manage
a single touchdown in the fourth quarter to cut the final margin to 24
points.
New Look at the "Jake":
The biggest outward change at Jake Christiansen Stadium this season
will be the new scoreboard. The new board is thinner and wider than the
old board. The brand new scoreboard, which makes its debut against the
Dragons, was put in place just this week. It measures 34 feet long.
Records Were Made to
be Broken:
Entering this season, three Concordia players have a chance to write
their names into the Cobber record book. Quarterback Ryan Hebrink enters
this season having amassed 4,124 total offensive yards. He needs 1,192
yards to break the school's total offensive yardage record of 5,316 yards
held by Ethan Pole ('95-'98). Senior running back Bobby Clark has accumulated
1, 291 yards in his first three seasons in maroon and gold, and has a chance
to become only the third player in school history to rush for over 2,000
yards in a career (the school record is held by Mike Jousma who rushed
for 2,393 yards from 1990-93). Finally, Josh Vickerman needs only
one reception to break the schoolâs career interception mark. He has 11
career ãpicksä and is currently tied for the record with Stuart Lang and
Terry Storm.
