Cobbers Beat NCAA Division II Northern State for Second Consecutive Year.
ABERDEEN, S.D.-- For the second consecutive year Concordia wrestled NCAA Division II foe Northern State in a dual match, and for the second straight year the Cobbers scored 27 points their way to a victory.

This year, Concordia won six of the ten matches and claimed a 27-15 victory. The win improves the Cobbers' dual match record to 4-1 this season. Concordia recently went 3-1 at the Terry Haws Dual Tournament held at St. John's.

The match was decided in the final four individual bouts of the night. After falling behind 12-6 after the first four matches, the Cobbers claimed two victories by forfeit to take the lead at 18-12. With the match hanging in the balance, Thane Taylor (Fr., St. Cloud, Minn.), Lee Rahrlien (Jr., Graceville, Minn.) and David Ahmed (So., Conrad, Mont.) all won their match by a decision and Concordia was able to prevail by the 12-point margin.

Taylor, wrestling at 141, came from behind in the final minute of the third period to scratch out a 6-5 win. After Dustin Weege (Fr., Buffalo, Minn.) fell at 149, Rahrlien pulled away in the third period to win going away 7-3 at 157. Ahmed then had a near-fall in the first period to take a 7-4 lead and ended up winning 7-5 at 165.

Rahrlien has now won nine of his 10 matches since the Christmas break.

The lone win in the first three individual matches came at 197 when Concordia senior Dennis Kline (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) pinned Todd Naasz in the second period. For Kline it is his seventh win since the start of the New Year. He is now 7-1 in his last eight matches.

Smokey McBride (So., Eagan, Minn.) and Wes Graff (So., Mankato, Minn.) notched the other two victories for the Cobbers. Both wrestlers won by forfeit.

Concordia will host a dual match double header on Saturday, January 22. The Cobbers will take on MSU-Moorhead at 6:00pm in a match postponed from December 8 and then square off against St. John's at 7:30pm.
