St. Olaf Open Meet Recap

Cobbers Tune Up for MIAC Indoor Championships by Competing at St. Olaf Open.
NORTHFIELD-- Concordia used the school's mid-semester break to tune up for the upcoming MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet. The Cobbers traveled south to Northfield with a select group of athletes to compete in the St. Olaf Open.

The Cobbers had two middle distance runners continue win races against the top competition from around the region. Jen St. John and Amy Ravenhorst were the lone event winners for Concordia as they claimed titles in the 600 and 800 meters.

St. John ran a 2:21.99 in the 800 meters and won by over two seconds. That time is a personal best and ranks her ninth in the MIAC this season. Ravenhorst's time of 1:39.81 in the 600 meters is the third fastest in school history and also ranks her third on the league honor roll for 2005.

Carrie Fransen had a quality showing the mile run. The senior clocked a 5:21.09 and finished third in the event. That is the fourth fastest time in the history of the program and vaults her into the top ten in the conference heading into the conference meet.

Other top five finishers for Concordia included Jill Fancher in the 200 and 400 meters and Stephanie Leer in the high jump. Fancher, whose forte is the sprint hurdles, has steadily improved in the longer sprint distances and will be a factor in multiple events for the Cobbers at the conference meet. Leer posts back-to-back solid heights in the high jump. After becoming the tenth Concordia athlete in program history to break the 5-foot barrier last week at the Bison Classic, she jumped 4-11 at the St. Olaf Open to finish in a tie for fifth. She is in the top ten on the conference honor roll and could give the Cobbers crucial points at the MIAC meet.

Concordia will host the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet on March 3-5. The meet will be held in the Olson Forum on the campus of Concordia.
