Olson named to all-MIAC team
The statistics for Cobber baseball player Dan Olson reveal a stellar season for the junior from Buffalo, Minn., the only member of the Cobber team to field a spot on the all-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) baseball team.
Olson's selection came after a season performance that set the pace in several categories for the Cobbers. Me led Concordia hitters with a .380 batting average. His team-leading 22 RBI came off 38 hits, including nine doubles, two triples and three home runs. His 11 stolen bases tied for top honors.
In addition to his offensive game power, Olson turned in some fine plays at the shortstop position after switching from center field at the beginning of the season.
As a team, the Cobbers collected a 10-7 conference season record to capture fourth place in the MIAC. They finished with an overall record of 15-16.
Near the end of the season, teammates designated Olson as the most valuable player in 1982 and selected him to be captain of the 1983 Cobber ream.
This was not the first time Olson received all-MIAC honors. As a member of the 1981 National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II champion Cobber football squad, Olson was named all-MIAC free safety. Olson also received honorable mention on the NAIA Division II all-America team.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Olson of Buffalo.
