The Cobbers gave up an early goal and then a dribbler in the second
period before making it a 2-1 game early in the 3rd period. Auggie scored
an empty net goal late to make it a 3-1 Auggie win. Concordia hosts Gustavus
in next weekend's regular season finale and Augsburg takes on St. Thomas.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College moved into a tie for the lead in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey race with a 3-1 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in the final game of a two-game series Saturday afternoon at Augsburg Ice Arena.
With the win, combined with a 0-0 tie with the Cobbers on Friday, the Auggies are now 11-8-4 overall and 8-3-3 in the MIAC for 19 conference points, tied with St. Mary's (which lost 6-2 to St. Mary's on Saturday) and St. Thomas (which beat St. Olaf 6-3). Augsburg is also assured of a spot in the four-team MIAC playoffs, based on tiebreaker criteria. Concordia falls to 12-9-2 overall and 8-4-2 in the MIAC for 18 conference points. There are five teams with either 18 or 19 points in MIAC play entering the final weekend of the conference season.
Jeffrey Arndt (So., Hugo, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Steve LaMere (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) had goals for the Auggies, with Joe Johnson (Fr., Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) adding an empty-net goal in the final minute of play. Brock Blikre (Sr., Minot, N.D.) had the lone goal for the Cobbers.
Ryan McIntosh (So., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 42 saves in net to pick up the victory for the Auggies, while Bryan Howard (So., Gold River, Calif./Brooks HS) made 28 saves in a losing effort. Concordia outshot the Auggies by a 43-31 margin.
Augsburg faces the University of St. Thomas in its final MIAC series of the regular season next Saturday and Sunday (2/20-21), while Concordia hosts Gustavus in its last two-game series Friday and Saturday (2/12-13).
