Wins Share of MIAC Title
The Cobber football team opened the year with a 10-7 win over Moorhead State and then went 7-1-1 in the MIAC to share the title with St. John's. Jim Christopherson's 27th team lost to eventual Division III champion UW-LaCrosse in a NCAA first round game in the Fargodome to end the year 8-2-1. All-MIAC Football Players included: -Tim Lowry '96, Sun River, MT, was an AFCA (Kodak) All-American at offensive tackle. He helped the Cobbers lead the MIAC in total offense and rushing. -Chad Johnson '96, Litchfield, '95 captain, team MVP, linebacker led team with 75 tackles, 6 INTs. -Eli Schuff '97, Billings, MT, '96 captain, halfback led MIAC rushers and had 1145 yards for the season. -Bryan Boll '96, Crookston, '95 captain, defensive end helped Cobs lead MIAC in defense and was Academic All-MIAC with 3.70 GPA in Education. -Kyle Odermann '96, Belfield, ND, '95 captain, 3-year starting quarterback, 4,198 career passing yards. -Jason Caron '97, Bemidji, '96 captain, defensive tackle led team in sacks and had 59 tackles. -Tory Langemo '97, Litchfield, '96 captain, had 44 receptions for 603 yards. Earning All-MIAC second team football honors were defensive end Jerid Schoeck, '96, Hancock, safety Shadd Young '96, Fargo, fullback Mike Halvorson, '97, Fargo, center Chad Schwartz '96, Willmar, receiver Shawn McGee '96, Bloomington, guard Jay Boatman '96, Lake Park, and tight end Nate Merseth '97, Frazee.
