Dale Hertel joined the Cobber football staff in the spring of 1997.
Hertel, a Moorhead High and 1971 Cobber graduate, will continue to teach in the Fargo School system but left his head football coaching duties at Fargo South.
Hertel, who played quarterback for Christopherson at Concordia, had 26 years of experience as a head high school football coach, the last 21 of which at Fargo South. Hertel‚s Fargo South teams won eight North Dakota Class A State Championships (‚78, ‚82, ő86, ‚87, ‚89, ‚90, ‚92, ‚96), were state runner-up 4 times (‚79, ‚81, ‚88, ‚93) and reached the semi-finals another three times (‚85, ‚91, ‚94). He was named North Dakota High School Coach of the Year 3 times.
Hertel‚s record at Fargo South was 183-41. Including his first five years of coaching at Ortonville (Minn.) High School, his career record is 209-59.
Hertel took part in football, baseball and track at Concordia. He was twice named football All-MIAC. He was a Cobber football captain and the MIAC football MVP in 1970. He was inducted into the Concordia Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990.
