The athletic association met in October of 1912 to elect officers for the coming year. To encourage spirit among the members, one chief and two assistant yell masters were elected.
Up to this point the boys practiced football every day and from the general interest, it seemed there was a lot of enthusiasm for football and all athletics.
Professor Tonning has been giving the boys some instruction in football but due to the fact that the season was so short and having mostly new material to deal with, no games with other teams were scheduled.
The girls take cross-country walks daily under the supervision of Miss Thompson.
The delegates from different schools included in the Athletic Conference
met at Concordia in November. Professor Tonning acted as chairman of the
meeting. Business procedures and manners of electing a secretary were decided
upon. Jamestown College was admitted as a member. The rules governing eligibility
of players were slightly modified. In order to participate in a game, a
player must be registered at least one week before the game or one term
proceeding the game.(19)
The prospects for a good basketball team seemed very good and under the able leadership of Professor Tonning, a successful season will be assured.
The members of the 1912-1913 basketball team were O. Tollefson, Thomas Thomeson, Fred Kile, Obed Kile, Martin Johnson, Ing Lavik, J. Krogh, B. Muus, O. Ness and E. Lindahl. The team was coached by Professor Tonning.
The schedule for the 1912-1913 basketball season included games with
Dakota Business College, NDAC, Valley City Normal, Jamestown College, Moorhead
Normal Mayville Normal, and Park Region. No scores were found for that
Over 30 candidates reported for the 1913 baseball team coached by Professor Tonning. Veterans returning were: Thomeson, F. Johnson, Sattre, Overby, Martin Johnson, Tollefson, Muus, Krogh and Vennes. Coach Tonning divided the candidates into squads and each squad has a regular period for practice in the gym every day. As soon as the weather permits, the outdoor work would begin. On the schedule were NDAC, Fargo College, Park Region, Valley City Normal and Moorhead Normal.(20)
An article in the Crescent mentioned that tennis is very popular this year. A splendid court is being built east of the main building and substantial backstops are being installed also.
