Two track men In NCAA tourney
Howard Bergiund and David "Buzz" Dahl collected six team points for Concordia during the 94-team National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III track tournament, held at Napperville, Ill., on May 28.
Berglund, a junior from Carrington, N.D., who also pitches for the Cobber baseball team, placed seventh in the javelin competition with a throw of 198-2. Re qualified for nationals with a conference-record throw of 218-2, breaking the old record by nearly four feet. Before entering the nationals, he had participated in javelin competition only twice this season.
Dahl, a senior from Canton, S.D., placed 15th in the pole vault at nationals. During the MIAC tournament, he had set a new record by clearing the 14-11 mark.
Glassboro (N.J.) State College won the NCAA meet with 94 team points. MIAC competitor Ramline University, St. Paul, Minn., placed second.
En route to the nationals, Concordia had placed sixth at the MIAC meet
two weeks earlier. In addition to wins by Bergiund and Dahl, Cobber Dan
Hauer, a freshman from Perham, Minn., finished second in the 110-meter
high hurdles, and Eric Ness, a junior from Minneapolis, placed sixth in
the javelin.
