Women's tennis

This season was a rebuilding one for the women's tennis team, having lost five of their top seven players from last year. Despite the lack of experience, the team worked hard and finished sixth in the conference tournament.

Dr. Bernice Pavek, team coach, said ''We finished the season with 10 wins and eight losses, which is good, under the circumstances. The team put in a good effort, and we got leadership from some individuals we didn't expect it from."

Rachel Libi '89, Minot, N.D., led the team with a 13-6 record, followed by Tania Thielman '89, Jamestown, N.D., who had an 11-9 record on the season. Lisa Hanson '90, Wilimar, Minn., was undefeated at 5-0 in singles play until a preseason injury required surgery, ending her season competition early.

Only one team member graduated, so next year's team should be a strong contender in the MIAC, Pavek said.
