Profiles of Excellence - Soren Nelson
While their Division I counterparts
often choose a college on the basis of which school will be the best steppingstone
to a professional career, Division III student-athletes rely on other factors
in making one the most important decisions of their lives to that point.
For most, a combination of academics, availability of a particular major
and location factor into their decision. Family tradition also often plays
a large role in the process, as many Division III student-athletes follow
their siblings, parents, grandparents and other relatives to the “family
school,” For Soren Nelson, this family tradition played a big part in his
decision to attend Concordia College.
“There’s a bit of a family
tradition about attending Concordia,” said Soren. “My mom and my older
sisters went here.” He added with a smile, “But my dad and older brother
both went across town to Moorhead State.”(More) |

List of D3hoops.com All-Region Awards
Keith Eckhoff (Sr.,
Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-West

All-Region honors. The award comes two weeks after Eckhoff was named to

10 points higher than his previous best season high total. He finished

Keith Eckhoff Named MIAC
Player of the Week.
Concordia junior guard Keith
Eckhoff (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named the MIAC Player
of the Week for his three-game performance against Macalester, Carleton
and North Dakota State University last week.
Eckhoff averaged 27.0 points
per game in the Cobbers three games last week. His biggest contribution
to Concordia's two league wins was against Carleton where he scored 36
points and hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer in overtime.
For the week, Concordia went
2-1 with their only loss coming to NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota
State University. Eckhoff led the Cobbers to a pair of league wins which
places the team right back in the MIAC playoff hunt.
Eckhoff had game-high point
totals in all three of the Cobbers' games during the week. On Monday, in
Concordia's 77-68 win, Eckhoff scored 26 points and was 12-of-13 from the
free throw line. In Wednesday's overtime thriller against the Knights,
Eckhoff scored 36 points - including 15 of the team's 17 points in overtime.
For the game he was 11-of-17 from the field, 5-of-6 from 3-point range
and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. On Saturday against NDSU, Eckhoff
scored 19 points.
His three-game performance
helped Eckhoff to the top of the MIAC scoring race. He also leads the league
in 3-point field goal percentage and is second in free throw percentage.
