1/09 Chance Buzzell Named to the NSCAA West All-Region 1st Team.
Concordia senior forward Chance Buzzell (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) West All-Region first team. It is the first national honor for Buzzell and caps a season that earned him all-conference honors and the runner-up spot in the ballot for conference MVP. It is the first time since 1999 that a Cobber player has earned all-region honors. Eric Singer ('00, Plymouth, Minn.) was named to the Midwest All-Region second team that year. Only two other Concordia players have garnered first team recognition. Peter Curry ('96, Plymouth, Minn.) was the first Cobber in 1995 to gain the region's highest honor, and Todd Hashbarger ('98, Fargo, N.Dak.) was named to the team in 1997. Curry is the school's all-time leading scorer with 112 career points, while Hashbarger was a three-time all-region performer. Buzzell led the Cobbers in scoring with 9 goals and 11 assists for 29 points. In the MIAC he tallied three goals and four assists. He was the offensive leader of the team that upped their goal output from 19 goals in 2000 to 40 goals in 2001. He finished his four-year career with 20 goals and 24 assists which places him fifth on the school's all-time points list. He also set a school record this season in assists in a game, when he assisted on four goals in the game against UW-Superior. He is one of only four players from the MIAC to be named to the all-region first team. Also being honored were Mike Rutter , a junior midfielder from St. John's and Brendan Mayer and Kimani Williams from Macalester. Both Mayer and Williams are seniors. Mayer was named the MVP of the MIAC and Williams led the conference in scoring. The MIAC placed 11 players on the three all-region teams. 11/15 Four Cobber Players and Coach Earn MIAC Post Season Honors. | Complete Details on MIAC All-Conference Team | 11/3 Cobbers Close the Door on St. John's 1-0. 10/27 Cobbers Slip Up in Second Half, Fall to St. Thomas 2-1. 10/21 Cobbers Take a Beating, But Prevail Over St. Scholastica 3-2. 10/19 Concordia Sails Over UW-Superior 7-0. 10/19 The Concordian, Menās
