Series Summary -
In the first game, St. Thomas jumped on the board early, scoring two runs in the opening frame. Concordia cut the lead to 6-3 in the third inning before the Tommies used a two-run fourth to extend the lead to five runs. After the fourth the Cobbers were never able to mount a comeback, with their best chance coming in the sixth when Cobber senior Heather Stohs (Perham, Minn.) doubled, then Kristina Brakke (Moorhead, Minn.) and Becky Bouwman (So., Glenwood, Minn.) walked to load the bases. All three Concordia runners were stranded when St. Thomas starter Casey Curson finished the inning and the game with a strikeout.
Curson picked up the win allowing only four hits in six innings. Christine Moen (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Concordia, going six innings and giving up nine earned runs. Cobber catcher Jill Pontius (Jr., Eagle Bend, Minn.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense.
Concordia struck first in game two, and took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning. The Tommies struck for three runs in the top half of the inning, and never relinquished the lead. The game stayed close until the seventh inning when St. Thomas was able to score five times. Three of the runs were unearned as the Cobbers committed two costly errors in the inning.
Amanda Schindeldecker (Jr., Menahga, Minn.) was instrumental on both sides of the field in the second game. She pitched all seven innings, giving up only three earned runs, and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run batted in. For Schindeldecker it was only her third career start and drops her record to 1-2. Stacy Tamble went the distance for St. Thomas in the second game. She upped her record on the year to 14-3.
With the two defeats, Concordia falls below .500 in the MIAC for the first time all season. They now stand at 7-9 in conference play and 10-10 overall. St. Thomas continues to duel with St. Mary's for the league title, as they improve to 17-1 in the MIAC and 30-6 overall.
The Cobbers will host a pair of series on Friday and Saturday when St. Olaf and St. Ben's visit Moorhead. The Cobbers will end their season on Monday, May 5th when they play St. Kate's at St. Ben's in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played on April 30th.

Season Outlook and Notes:
Steve Baumgartner enters his 15th year as head coach
optimistic that a solid 1-2 pitching combination will push them to the
edge of their goals. offensively Concordia will look to strengthen the
middle of the lineup to replace two-time All-MIAC centerfielder Cindy
Frey (St. Paul, MN) who graduated last spring.
The foundation for Concordia this year will be two-time All-Region and All-MIAC pitcher Erin Gunderson (Jr., Princeton, MN). Gunderson was in the top five in the conference in every pitching category in 2000, and currently holds every pitching mark in the school record book. She won 19 games last year and struck out 141 batters in 179 innings of work. She also held opponents to a .183 average in her 31 games. Adding a solid 1-2 punch will be senior hurler Christine Moen (Glenwood, MN). Moen is a three-year starter who led the Cobbers in saves last year and has a 3.49 career ERA.
Concordia returns four of their top five hitters in
2001. Leading the hit parade is junior catcher Jill
Pontius (Eagle Bend, MN), an All-Conference Honorable mention selection
last year. Pontius was the team leader in batting average, on-base percentage
and slugging percentage in 2000. Kathy
Braun (Jr., Willmar, MN) a three-year starter at second base, will
return as the leadoff hitter. She finished the 2000 season third on the
team in batting average and on-base percentage. Designated player Heather
Stohs (Sr., Perham, MN), Pontius and Gunderson will give the Cobbers
a potent top four in the batting order. Stohs, a career .277 hitter, led
the team in at-bats last year. Finding a bottom five in the order that
can threaten consistently will be a priority for Baumgartner. Junior Amanda
Schindeldecker (Menahga, MN) and sophomores Jill
Flatau (Perham, MN) and Becky Bouwman
In the field Concordia has two key spots to fill in
the middle of the diamond. Danielson at shortstop and Frey in centerfield
were the vocal captains that organized the defense. The right side of the
infield will remain intact from last year as Stacie
Johnson (So., Belgrade, MN) will benefit from a years experience at
first base and Braun provides a strong presence at second. Schindeldecker
will anchor the left side as she returns for her third year as the starting
thirdbaseman. The biggest question mark on the team will be the
