Season Outlook/Notes:

Head Coach Peg Moline will begin her seventh season with a veteran squad.  Moline will need to find replacements for all-conference guards Sheila Schonrock and Becca Wold, however, the team used a nine player rotation last year so there are experienced players ready to step into the limelight.  Those expected to make up the guard rotation include senior Sarah Schonrock who started every game last season and average 12.5 points per game, junior Shelly Bishop who was selected to the all-conference team as a first year player but missed most of last season with a leg injury and sophomore Jessica Hogan who made major strides at the point guard last season as a first year player.  Inside, the Gusties have a trio of veteran players in senior Liz Reed and sophomores Katie Hansen and Nissa Stolp. Hansen and Reed were designated as the starters last year, but Moline  rotates the three at equal intervals so their minutes are virtually the same.  Hansen is the top scorer of the three, while Reed holds the advantage in rebounding and Stolp is the most mobile allowing her to get up the floor and help on the fast break.
Moline is also hoping that sophomore Tricia Niebuhr (6' 4") can step in and give the team some quality
minutes after adding some strength and adjusting to the college game as a first year player last season.

The Gusties have a good mix of experience and talent and should again be one of the top teams in the MIAC in 1998-99.  It will be important for Peg Moline to find someone to replace the outside shooting of Becca Wold in order to loosen up the inside for Hansen, Reed and Stolp.  The most
likely candidates are Sara Schonrock and Shelly Bishop.  Sophomore Jessica Hogan is also capable of knocking down the 15-to-18 foot jumper when called upon.  The 1998-99 Gusties should be an up-tempo, pressing team that will be able to put a lot of points on the board.
