ranking, and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA
Division III National Tournament. The Cobbers went 9-2 in the MIAC's
regular season and then The Cobbers were led by three All-MIAC
performers. Hitter Angie Carlin With no seniors on this year's roster
and all three All-MIAC players returning, Cobber
volleyball prospects continue to look bright.
Concordia lost to St. Olaf tonight in the first round of the NCAA
Central Regional at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, Nebraska. The loss
ends the Cobber season at 25-12 overall, 9-2 and 2nd in the MIAC. The Cobbers lost 14-16 15-8 15-8 15-2. 11/11/96 Cobbers face St. Olaf in NCAA First Round Nov. 15 at 5:30 in Lincoln, Neb. Concordia has earned a second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 24-11 Cobbers will play in the 4-team Central Regional November 15-16 at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. Fourth seeded Concordia (25-11) will face St. Olaf (34-3) in the first match at 5:30 Friday, Nov. 15th at Wesleyan's 2,300 seat Snyder arena. Wesleyan (22-11) will take on Central College of Iowa (30-11) in the second match at 8:00. Saturday's Regional Championship match is at 7:30 on Saturday, Nov. 16. There is no 3rd place match at the regional. Last year the Cobbers lost in the first round of the NCAA Regional to the University of Dubuque. Concordia enters this weekend's Central Region Tournament with a 25-11 record overall, 9-2 in the MIAC. The Cobbers finished second in last weekend's MIAC Tournament, beating the region's No. 5 team St. Ben's in five games and then losing 3-0 to No. 1 seeded St. Olaf. The Cobbers earned their second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance behind three All-MIAC Performers. Junior outside hitter Angie Carlin leads the team in digs per game (2.70) and service aces per game (.742). 1995 All-Region setter Marsha Suko averages 9.3 assists per game. Sophomore middle hitter Laura Reitmeier is the team leader in kills and blocks. She is second on the team in hitting percentage and aces per game. The Cobbers are led by 4th year coach Tim Mosser, the 1995 MIAC coach of the year. 11/9/96 Cobbers Take Second in MIAC Concordia finished second in the MIAC Tournament at Macalester today, giving them second alone in the final MIAC season standings and a probable NCAA Tournament bid. The Cobbers ended the regular season 25-11. The Cobbers beat Gustavus 15-4 15-6 15-6 Friday night. They then beat St. Ben's in 5 games Saturday, winning 11-15 15-6 15-9 8-15 15-6 in Saturday's semifinal. The Cobbers lost to St. Olaf in the championship game 16-14 15-8 15-11. Three Cobbers earned All-MIAC honors, Angie Carlin , Laura Reitmeier , and Marsha Suko . |
