FLORIDA SOUTHERN MEN & WOMEN, METHODIST MEN & WOMEN RETAIN
TOP SPOTS IN THE FINAL FALL EDITION OF THE MASTERCARD RANKINGS
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Florida Southern College menās and womenās golf teams, and the Methodist College menās and womenās golf teams, top the polls in the end-of-fall edition of the Division II & III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. These same four teams were ranked No. 1 in the preseason edition of the MasterCard Rankings. The rankings were voted on by a panel of menās and womenās collegiate golf coaches, in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).
The College Golf Foundation, which has administered the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings for Division I since the 1995-96 season, expanded the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings to include Division II & III in 1997. Beginning with the mid-season edition last year, the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings also include district rankings for Division II & III.
Florida Southern College, which posted three top ten finishes in four events this fall ö while competing in events comprised of mostly Division I teams ö is the top-ranked menās team in Division II. Florida Southern, which won its tenth NCAA Championship last spring, was also ranked No. 1 in the preseason rankings. The University of West Florida, which has won three tournaments so far this season, is ranked second. Texas Wesleyan University, which won the Division II Golf World Match Play Championship in October, is ranked No. 3. Rounding out the top five are Grand Canyon University, ranked No. 4, and Columbus State University, ranked No. 5.
Methodist College, which won the Division III Golf World Match Play Championship in October, is the top-ranked menās team in Division III. Methodist, which was ranked No. 1 in the preseason edition of the MasterCard Rankings, also won the team title at the Greensboro Invitational and won the Gordin Classic in a playoff with Greensboro College. Greensboro College, which has finished in the top five in each of its four events this fall, is ranked second. Rounding out the top five are the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, ranked No. 3, Skidmore College, ranked No. 4, and the University of California-San Diego, ranked No. 5.
In the womenās Division II MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, Florida Southern College retained the top spot it held in the preseason rankings. Florida Southern, which won the Lady Sunshine Invitational in September, also posted two top five finishes this fall. Following Florida Southern in second place is Rollins College, which has posted three top five finishes in five events so far this season. Rounding out the top five are Lynn University, ranked third, Western New Mexico University, ranked fourth, and Longwood College, ranked fifth.
The Methodist College womenās team also retained its position as the top-ranked team in the Division III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Concordia College, which has five first place finishes this fall, is ranked second. Rounding out the top five are the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, ranked No. 3, Simpson College, ranked No. 4, and Hardin-Simmons University, ranked No. 5.

PRESEASON 1999-2000 EDITION OF THE MASTERCARD RANKINGS
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Florida Southern College menās and womenās golf teams, and the Methodist College menās and womenās golf teams, top the polls in the preseason 1999-2000 edition of the Division II & III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. These same four teams were ranked No. 1 in the final edition of the MasterCard Rankings following the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. The rankings were voted on by a panel of menās and womenās collegiate golf coaches, in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA).
The College Golf Foundation, which has administered the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings for Division I since the 1995-96 season, expanded the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings to include Division II & III in 1997. Beginning with the mid-season edition last year, the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings also include district rankings for Division II & III.
Florida Southern College, which won its tenth NCAA Championship last spring, is the top-ranked menās team in the Division II MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Florida Southern shot a 27-under par 1125, winning by 32 strokes and breaking the NCAA record of 1141 set by Lamar in 1967. The University of South Carolina-Aiken, runner-up to Florida Southern at the NCAA Finals, is ranked second. The University of West Florida, which finished third at the NCAA Championships, is ranked No. 3. Rounding out the top five are Valdosta State University, ranked No. 4, and Columbus State University, ranked No. 5.
Methodist College, which won its sixth straight NCAA Championship (ninth in last ten years) last spring, is the top-ranked menās team in Division III. Greensboro College, which finished third at the NCAA Finals, is ranked second. Otterbein College is ranked third. Allegheny College and the University of California ö San Diego, both tied at No. 4, round out the top five.
In the womenās Division II MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, Florida Southern College retained the top spot it held at the end of last season. Florida Southern finished second at the 1999 Division II & III NCAA Championships, three strokes behind Methodist. Following Florida Southern in second place is Rollins College, which finished third at the NCAA Finals last year. Rounding out the top five are Lynn University, ranked third, Longwood College, ranked fourth, and Northeastern State University, ranked fifth.
The Methodist College womenās team also retained its position as the top-ranked team in the Division III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Methodist won the 1999 Division II & III NCAA Championships, defeating Florida Southern by three strokes after shooting a 114-over par 1282. Hardin-Simmons University, which finished fourth at the NCAA Championships and was second overall among Division III teams, is ranked second. Concordia College is ranked No. 3. Rounding out the top five are Simpson College and Gustavus Adolphus College, which are ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
