Match Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/15/09)-- For the second Sunday in the past three weeks Concordia stumbled against a tough opponent and came out on the wrong end of an 8-1 score. On Sunday the Cobbers lost all three doubles matches and five of the six singles bouts and fell to St. Thomas.

The loss is the second in as many days tp a conference opponent. CC lost to nationally ranked Gustavus in the league opener on Friday and is now 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAC.

The biggest emerging story of the season for Concordia is the play of No.1 singles player Matt Edin. Edin is turning into one of the premiere players in the league and on Sunday he raced away with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. The victory was his team-leading third of the season and he is now 3-2 on the season.

The closest singles match for the Cobbers beside the win from Edin came at No.5 singles where CC freshman Justin LeBeaux fell in the super-set tie-breaker. LeBeaux lost the first set 6-0 but then rallied to earn a 6-3 win in set No.2. In the tie-breaker, LeBeaux was finally edged 10-8.

In doubles play the Cobbers lost a pair of 8-5 decisions and an 8-4 defeat at No.2 doubles. Edin paired with junior Kirby Johnson at No.1 doubles and lost 8-5.

Concordia will have an extended break due to mid-semester break. The Cobbers will return to action on Mar. 6 when they play at Hamline at 4:30 p.m.
