FARGO, Minn. (5/01/10)-- Concordia finished off the 2010 season by posting a 5-4 win over playoff-bound Macalester at Courts Plus in Fargo on Saturday. Concordia claimed a pair of doubles wins and then earned wins at No.1, No.5 and No.6 singles to pick up their seventh win of the season.
With the win, Concordia snaps a three-match losing streak and finishes the season 3-7 in MIAC matches and 7-10 in all all matches. The Scots will be the No.5 seed in the upcoming MIAC playoffs as they are 4-5 in conference play and 12-7 in overall matches.
Cobber junior Jordan Swanson picked up a pair of wins by teaming with Chad Smith to win 9-8 (7-0) at No.2 doubles. He then clinched the match by winning in the super-set tiebreaker at No.5 singles. Swanson won 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in singles play and finishes the year 7-10.
The other singles wins came from Matt Edin at No.1 singles and Devin Larson at No.6 singles. Edin rallied from dropping the first set 6-4. He then won 6-1 in the second set and had to go overtime in the super-set tiebreaker to win 14-12. For Edin it was his 1oth singles victory of the year and ended a two-match losing streak. Edin finishes his junior year with a 10-6 record and has 27 wins in his first three years.
Larson won the team's win/loss race by earning his team-leading 11th singles win of the year. Larson posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at No.6 singles and ends his first year of collegiate tennis with an 11-6 record. He was 8-2 in his final 10 matches.
Larson and Brian Olson won the other match for the Cobbers. The pair won 8-1 at No.3 doubles and finishes the year with a team-high nine doubles victories.
