MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/02/09)-- Concordia senior Paul Westmark (Appleton, Wis.) was named the MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week it was announced by the MIAC office on Monday. Westmark won the Cobber Pentathlon and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Meet.

The award is the first conference weekly honor for Westmark who won the MIAC decathlon last spring. Westmark becomes the first CC athlete to win the conference weekly honor since last season when Dustin Olejnicak captured the award on Jan. 28.

Westmark posted a final score of 3,433 points at the Cobber Pentathlon. His score bettered the national provisionally qualifying mark of 3,400 points. It is also the third best mark in Division III this season.

Westmark's score also sets a new school record in the event. The men's pentathlon just became an event that will be offered at the national meet this season.
