Meet Recap:

FARGO, N.D. (2/02/08)-- Concordia freshman Hailey Brenden made a successful debut in the 2008 indoor season as the Cobbers competed in the Bison Open on Saturday.

Brenden, an all-region award-winner in cross country, had been healing an injury and used the Bison Open to get started on her indoor track career. She ran a 10:52.42 in the 3000 meters and finished second. She was the highest place winner for the Cobbers at the meet. Her time is the fastest for a Cobber in the event since All-American Natalie Hanson ran a 10:21.53 at the MIAC Championship Meet in 2006.

Brenden also ran a 5:21.78 in the mile run and finished eighth.

Brenden had company in above average early-season form. Junior Mary Otis continued her fast sprint start by running an 8.13 in the 60-meter dash and finished fourth. She also posted a time of 9.55 in the 60-meter hurdles and placed sixth. Her time in the 60-meter dash is the fastest since Angie Pfeiffer ran a 7.95 at the Bison Open in 2004. That time is the school record in the event.

Other top five finishers for the Cobbers included Anna Hagen (5th - 1000 meters - 3:15.99), Maria Middleton (4th - 3000 meters - 11:04.90), Leah Kay (4th - high jump) and Valerie Glynn (5th - triple jump 33-10.25). Glynn's jump is the third best in the MIAC this season and best by a Cobber athlete since the 2006 campaign.

Concordia will stay on the road next weekend when they compete at the St. Ben's Triangular at St. John's in Collegeville, Minn. on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.
