Meet Recap:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (3/4/10)-- Concordia seniors Leah Kay and Tara Ray started off the MIAC Championship Meet in spectacular fashion for the Cobbers as the two posted provisional national qualifying scores in the MIAC pentathlon and finished third and fourth.

Kay set a school record in the pentathlon as she finished with 3,345 points and placed third. Her score broke the old program mark of 3,314 set by Kay at last year's conference meet. Her total of 3,345 points is the fifth highest total in Division III this season.

Ray recorded a personal best score of 3,036 points and finished fourth. Her score is also the fourth highest in school history. Ray's total also puts her in the top 24 of the nation.

The Cobbers had three other athletes compete in the event. Freshman Kaari Jensen scored 2,697 in her first MIAC multi-even and finished seventh. Macey Bentley was in 11th place and had 2,519 points and Kristin Boyum finished with 2,011 points and was 12th.

Kay finished fourth or better in all five events. Her top finish came in the 800 meters where she ran a 2:24.20 and won the event. She scored 767 points in the event. Her top scoring event was in the high jump where she cleared 5-4.50 and earned 783 points. Kay almost cleared 5-05.75 in the high jump, which would have been an NCAA provisionally qualifying mark, but on her third attempt she cleared the bar only to have it jiggle off the standards as she watched from the pit. Kay produced season-best marks in the high jump, 800 meters and 55-meter hurdles.

Ray continued her trend of ever-improving results this season. She finished all five events in the top five and won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.21. She earned 729 points in the event which was her top point-getter at the event. Her other top event of the meet came at the end where she raced to a 2:31.72 in the 800 meters and earned 671 points. Her time is a season best by almost a full six seconds.
