COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/27/10)-- Concordia opened the 2010 outdoor season by competing at the CSB/SJU Invite at St. John's on Saturday. The Cobbers had a pair of athletes win individual events, posted 21 top 5 finishes and came away with a third-place team finish.

The biggest news of the meet came from the Cobber javelin crew who finally got to compete in 2010 after sitting out the indoor season. Concordia went 1-2-3 in the javelin and had five athletes place in the top 10. Katherine Brott led the CC contingent by winning the event with a distance of 114-06. Leah Kay was second with a mark of 111-07 and Kristen Warren was third at 107-00. Erica Holo and Sarah Peterson rounded out the top 10 finishers for Concordia.

The other individual event win for the Cobbers was posted by senior Tara Ray, who ran a 68.17 in the 400-meter hurdles and won the race by over a full second. Ray also went on to claim third place in the 100-meter hurdles. She posted a time of 16.70 and was the top DIII finisher in the race.

Ruth Raanum started her outdoor season by clocking a personal-best time of 62.97 in the 400 meters and finished fourth.

Other top 3 finishers for Concordia included Megan Hoffman in the 400-meter hurdles (2nd - 69.32), Kristin Slette in the 800 meters (2nd - 2:25.74), Kaari Jensen in the triple jump (2nd - 34-10.50), Emily Davis in the hammer throw (2nd - 136-00.) and Larissa Hansmeier in the discus (3rd - 114-02). Hansmeier also finished fourth in the shot put and had "PR's" in the shot put and hammer throw.

Concordia will now have a break for the Easter holiday. The Cobbers will take a partial team to train in Washington while other members will compete at the Northern State Invite on Saturday. The next full team competition will be on Saturday, Apr. 10 at the NDSU Bison Invite in Fargo.
