Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (11/25/08)-- Concordia clawed, scratched and struggled to get past MSU Moorhead all night long but could never over the top to take a lead and fell 73-60 on Tuesday in Memorial Auditorium. The loss is the first of the season for the Cobbers while the Dragons remain unbeaten and move to 2-0 on the season.

Concordia had a chance to cut into a seven-point MSU M lead with just over 3:00 to play in the game but a turnover and a subsequent 5-0 run by MSU Moorhead put the game out of reach for the final time of the evening. The Cobbers stayed close throughout the entire first half. Concordia trailed by only one point at 26-25 with 2:51 to play in the opening period but a 14-2 run in the closing minutes gave the Dragons a 40-27 lead at the half and was the catalyst behind their 13-point victory.

For the second consecutive game Concordia was led on the scoresheet by sophomore John Fraase. Fraase had a team-high 16 points after going for 24 in the season opener and is now averaging 20.0 points per game this year. He also had a team-high six rebounds. Darrin Olmscheid backed up his double-double performance in the opener by scoring 12 points and hauling down six rebounds against the Dragons. Both Fraase and Olmscheid went 6-for-14 from the floor. Erik Lien was the only other CC player to have more than eight points in the game. He scored 11 points and had five rebounds.

The Dragons were led by guard Grant Fossum who missed only two shots all night and had a game-high 19 points. He was 4-for-6 from the floor, 3-for-3 from behind the arc and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Justyn Burgess added 11 points and came away with a game-high eight rebounds while Xavier Reed chipped in 10 points.

Concordia shot 39.3% (24-for-61) from the floor as compared to 47.3% (26-for-55) from MSU M. The Cobbers shot 28.6% (4-for-14) from 3-point range and just 57.1% (8-for-14) from the free throw line. The Dragons connected on  37.5% (6-for-16) of their long range shots and 88.2% (15-for-17) of their tries from the foul line.

MSU Moorhead held a 29-26 advantage in rebounding and also had a 24-16 edge in points in the paint. The biggest statistical advantage on the night came from bench scoring where the MSU reserves outscored their CC counterparts 25-5.

The Cobbers will now leave for the state of Washington where they will compete in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational Tournament on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29. CC will play Pacific Lutheran on Friday at 10 p.m. (cst) and will complete their two-game trip by playing Concordia (Ore.) on Saturday at 6 p.m. (cst).
