Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/05/09)-- Pivotal Play: Augsburg junior guard Jon Cassens drove the ball up the court after a missed free throw from Concordia with seven seconds to play in the first overtime. He then dished the ball to Matthew Quammen who took a couple of dribbles and knocked down a 12-fooot jumper as time expired to give the Auggies a 71-69 win.

Unheralded Performances: Concordia had three players with at least 14 points in the game. Darrin Olmscheid finished with 15 point and seven rebounds while Cody Dyshaw had 14 points including a pair of 3-point baskets. For Augsburg, Quammen came off the bench to score and grab five rebounds. He was 6-for-10 from the floor including the game-winner as the buzzer sounded in overtime.

Key Stats: Concordia attempted only five free throws in the game. The Cobbers were 2-for-5 from the line. The five free throw attempts is the fewest of the season and least taken in a game since the 2006-07 season when they went 5-for-5 against Carleton. Augsburg was 9-for-11 from the line.

The Cobbers were led by sophomore John Fraase who had 15 points and 16 rebounds. The 16 rebounds is the second highest rebound total in a single game for Fraase. He had 17 boards against Pacific Lutheran earlier in the year. Fraase has now posted a double-double in each of his last four games.

As a team Concordia shot 50.0% (31-for-62) from the floor and 29.4% (5-for-17) from 3-point range.

Augsburg committed only six turnovers in the game and held a 15-6 edge in points off of turnovers. The Auggies shot 46.8% (29-for-62) from the field and 33.3% (4-for-12) from behind the arc.

Auggie freshman Andy Grzesiak-Grimm led all scorers with 23 points. He was 8-for-13 from the field and 7-for-8 from the line. He also chipped in five blocks and five rebounds. Nate Alm had his second double-double of the season. He finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Noteworthy: Concordia has now lost two straight and is 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC. The Auggies improve to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The loss in overtime is the first extra period defeat for the Cobbers this season. The last time CC played an overtime contest was at the beginning of the 2006-07 season when they fell 76-68 at St. Olaf. It was also Augsburg's first overtime of the season and first since the last game of the 2006-07 season.

Spin Ahead: Concordia will find out how well they handle playing games more than practicing this week. The Cobbers are almost in the middle of a stretch where they will play four games in seven days. After tonight’s game they will play at Macalester on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. and then return home to face St. John’s on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. CC will have just one game next week when they play at St. Mary’s on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:45 p.m.
