ST. PAUL, Minn. (02/10/07)-- For the second straight game the Cobber penalty kill units decided to take the day off. On Friday, the Cobbers gave up six power play goals and lost 9-3 to St. Thomas. On Saturday it was more of the same as the Cobbers gave up four power play goals and lost 5-1 in St. Paul.
The game was decided in the second period. After the two teams skated to a 0-0 tie after the opening period. UST scored two of their four power play goals in the middle period and grabbed a 3-0 lead heading into the final period of play. The Tommies added two more power play goals in the final 20 minutes of play before the Cobbers were able to get on the scoreboard with the shutout-busting goal at 17:22.
Joachim Flaten notched his fourth goal of the season for CC to keep the Cobbers from getting shutout for the second time in 2006-07.
The loss is the 11th straight for Concordia who has yet to win since the turn of the New Year. The Cobbers are now 6-15 overall and 2-10 in the MIAC. The Tommies gain the series sweep and are able to move into fourth place in the MIAC standings. UST is now 12-9-0 overall and 8-4-0 in league play.
Concordia was held to only 16 shots on goal for the game, one of the lowest totals of the season. St. Thomas finished the game with 39 shots on goal.
Cobber goalie Jeremy Boniface made 34 saves, while Tommie goalie Cameron Voss stopped 15 shots to earn his sixth win of the season.
Concordia will finish its six-game road trip when they play at Augsburg on Feb. 16-17.
