MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Concordia scored three goals in the third period against Bethel but were unable to overcome the Royals and lost 7-5 on Friday at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Arena.

The Cobbers rallied from a 5-2 deficit after to periods to bring the score to within 6-5 and even appeared to score the game-tying goals before it was waved off by the officials and wound up allowing an empty-net goal to fall 7-5.

Concordia remains winless in the MIAC and falls to 0-11. The Cobbers are now 5-14-1 overall. Bethel has not lost in the last seven games and moves to 5-4-2 in conference play and 7-11-2 overall.

The game was a a very clean, hard-skating affair that featured only four penalties. The Cobbers took only one penalty in the game and went 0-for-3 on the power play.  Bethel was whistled for three penalties and was 0-for-1 on the man-advantage situation.

Sean Lofgren scored a pair of goals for Concordia while Ryan Adams netted a pair for the Royals.

Bethel broke free in the opening period by scoring a pair of goals to open the game. Concordia scored a crucial goal before the end of the first period when Lofgren tipped in a centering pass from Ryan Clukey to score his first goal of the game.

The Royals scored the first two goals of the second period to extend the lead to 4-1. The second goal for Bethel was scored shorthanded which is the 12th shorthanded goal the Cobbers' have allowed this season.

Alec Holen scored his first collegiate goal for Concordia at 19:03 of the middle frame to bring the game to within two goals at 4-2. The Cobbers then appeared to be headed into the final period trailing by only two goals at 4-2 but Bethel was able to score with just 27 seconds left to go in the period to push the lead to 5-2.

Andy Murray scored his first collegiate goal in the first four minutes of the third period for Concordia, and then the teams skated without a goal for the next 12:00. Bethel broke the scoreless stretch by scoring an even-strength at 15:50 to go ahead 6-3.

Unwilling to concede, Concordia scored a pair of goals in the final four minutes of the game to cut the lead to 6-5. They almost had a third goal but Dan Perry's score in the final three minutes was waved off after the official s ruled that Perry had kicked the puck into the net. Lofgren scored his second goal of the game and then Perry added his team-leading 11th goal of the season at the 19:22 mark.

Bethel scored an empty-net goal with just one second to go in the game to push the final score to 7-5.

Cobber goalie Jeremy Boniface was solid in the first period and made 42 saves in the game as the Royals outshot Concordia 49-28 in the game. Bethel goalie Dustin Thompson stopped 23 shots to earn his 11th win of the year.

The two teams will finish the series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Rink.
