Gameday Game Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (12/03/08)-- Pivotal Play: Concordia led 40-37 with 10:41 to play in the second half. St. Thomas had the ball but the Cobbers were able to come up with a stop and then had the Tommies miss a pair of free throws after grabbing the offensive rebound. CC then went down and scored on a jumper by Lindsay Schultz and never let UST get to within four points in the final 9:00 of play.

Unheralded Performance: Annamaria Matetich entered the game with a 3.0 points per game average and proceeded to go 7-for-11 from the floor and end with a career-high 19 points. She scored 10 of her 19 points in the second half.

Key Stats: Sara Sorbo led all scorers with 21 points. She also had a game-high eight rebounds. She also recorded eight steals and was two rebounds and two steals away from the dreaded triple-double. Concordia shot 45.5% (20-for-44) from the floor and 78.3% (18-for-23) from the free throw. St. Thomas connected on 39.2% (20-for-51) from the floor but struggled from 3-point range and the free throw line. The Tommies shot 17.6% (3-for-17) from long range and 45.5% (5-for-11) from the foul line. The Tommies had only one player with more than nine points and were led by Jessica Katch who had 10.

Noteworthy: Concordia snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tommies. Before that stretch the Cobbers had taken seven straight from St. Thomas. It is the first time the Cobbers have won their conference opener since the 2003-04 season which was head coach Jessica Rahman's first season at CC. Even though Rahman was not on the bench for the game against Wednesday she will still get credited with the win. Rahman now has 97 career victories and needs only three more to reach the 100 career win mark.

The Quote: "I thought our ability to play 12 players throughout the game helped us handle their pressure and gave us a chance to succeed in the second part of the last half" - Cobber interim head coach Rachel Bergeson

Spin Ahead: Concordia will stay on the road and face Gustavus on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1 p.m. in St. Peter. The Cobbers will then return home and face Carleton on Monday, Dec. 8 at 5:45 p.m.
