Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/21/09)-- Concordia made 31 of their 36 free throws and steadily pulled away from St. Thomas as they claimed a 74-64 win over the Tommies in Moorhead on Wednesday. The Cobbers went through a 12-minute stretch in the second half without making a field goal but continually got to the line thanks to their attacking offense and posted their fourth straight win. The victory is also the ninth in the past 10 games for CC. Concordia is now 11-4 overall and 10-2 in the MIAC. It marks the 26th consecutive season that the Cobbers have won at least 10 games in conference play.

The game might have been won at the very end of the first half. After St. Thomas tied the game at 31-31 with :24 seconds to play in the opening period, Cobber sophomore Maggie Bauernfeind connected on a 3-pointer with :05 seconds to play that gave CC a 34-31 lead into the break. The tie was the first and last of the game and Bauernfeind's Concordia the momentum they would need to take control of the game in the second half. The Cobbers never trailed in the game and pushed their 3-point halftime lead to 10 points with less than four minutes gone in the final half. Concordia would never allow the Tommies to get to within five points for the remaindr of the half and coasted to their season sweep over UST.

For the game Concordia shot 34.6% (18-for-52) from the floor and 36.8% (7-for-19) from behind the arc. The 31 made free throw attempts is the second time in the past three games that CC has made over 30 foul shots in a game. The Cobbers have scored 82 points from the free throw line in the past three games and are 82-for-101 (81.2%) from the charity stripe in that stretch.

Concordia had four of their five starting players score in double figures. CC was led by junior Sara Sorbo who had a game-high 19 points. She also had five rebounds and three steals. Jenna Freudenberg had 17 points and has now scored in double figures in all but one game this season. Freudenberg went 8-for-8 from the line. Jenna Green added 15 points and Lindsey Schultz finished with 11 points.

The Cobber starters scored 71 of the team's 74 points in the game. St. Thomas outscored Concordia 37-3 in bench points.

St. Thomas (9-6/7-5 MIAC) shot 40.0% (22-for-55) from the floor but only 29.4% (5-for-17) from 3-point range. UST shot only 18 free throws and was 15-for-18 (83.3%) from the foul line. Jordyn Sears was the only St. Thomas player with more than eight points in the game. Sears came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points and was 5-for-9 from the field.
