Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/30/09)-- Concordia exploded for six unanswered goals and cruised to a 7-1 win over Augsburg in Moorhead on Friday. The victory snaps a five-game winless streak for the Cobbers and pushes them into fourth place in the MIAC standings. CC is now 6-4-1 in the league and 9-7-2 overall.

Concordia received mega-points from a pair of freshmen in the game. Katelyn Dold recorded her first collegiate hat trick and Becca Kent added two goals and two assists.

The Cobbers entered the game without having scored a goal in their past two-plus games and on a scoreless streak of over 135 minutes. That was quickly snapped when Dold scored the first of her three goals on the night at 6:53. The lead would be short-lived as the Auggies would counter with a goal by Tiffany Magnuson at 7:36. Concordia outshot Augsburg 15-4 in the first period 15-4 but the teams went into the break locked at 1-1 and it looked as if the Cobbers were up to their old tricks of taking lots of shots but not having anything to show for them.

Things changed dramatically for Concordia in the third period. The Cobbers found themselves on the power play at the 4:00 mark and took advantage of the man-advantage situation. Mandi Samuelson's goal at 4:23 would be the first of three in the period for CC and would prove to be the game winner. Kent and Kayla Thorson were credited with the assists on the play. For Thorson it was her team-leading 11th assist of the year. Concordia would then add a pair of even strength goals in the second half of the period. Kent would tally her seventh goal of the year at 13:57 and then Dold would get her second of the game at 18:48.

Concordia scored all three of their goals in the final frame in the first 7:38. Dold started the flurry with another even strength goal at 3:40. That was followed by a pair of power play goals from Kent and senior Bre Bian. Kit Holloway received assists on Dold and Bian's goals. Kent also added her second assist of the game on Bian's tally.

For the game Concordia outshot Augsburg (3-15-0/0-11-0 MIAC) 43-17 and had at least 13 shots in all three periods. Cobber goalie Maddie Haroldson made 16 saves to pick up her third win of the year. The Auggies split the goaltending duties. Toni Menth started and played the first 45:37. She stopped 27 shots. Grace Edgar came on in the third period and made nine saves in 14:23.

The two teams will finish their two-game series on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. on the north rink at the Moorhead Sports Center.
