Cobber senior Tom Sederquist was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for his dominating performance at the St. Olaf Invite on Saturday.
Sederquist Earns MIAC Weekly Honor!

 

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/20/10)-- Concordia senior Tom Sederquist (Moorhead, Minn.) was named the MIAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week i t was announced on Monday by the league office. It is the second time in his career that he has earned the honor. He was also named the Athlete of the Week in 2008 when he won the Jamestown Invitational.

Sederquist won the award on the heels of his second individual championship of the 2010 season. He won the St. Olaf Invite on Saturday after capturing the title at the season-opening NDSU Bison Open on Sept. 3. It is the fifth individual title of his career. He won three times in 2008.

Sederquist ran away from the field at the St. Olaf Invite - a meet that featured team champion UM-Duluth and MSU-Mankato who is currently ranked ninth in Division II. He raced to a 25:23 in Northfield and won the meet by almost a full :30 seconds. He was the only runner in the top 5 of the meet that was from a Division III school.

Sederquist took command of the race early. Just after the one-mile mark he edged away from the leaders and, by 2000 meters, held a 20 meter lead. No one was able to cut into Sederquist's lead and he went unchallenged the remainder of the 8000 meter course - going on to win by 29 seconds.
