Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/18/10)-- A record-setting crowd watched Concordia score a game-winning in the final four minutes of play and come away with a 2-1 win over Gustavus on Saturday. The announced crowd of 711 represents the largest crowd to ever witness a soccer game in the history of Concordia.

Cobber junior forward Riley McGlynn scored both CC goals and helped snap a two-game losing streak. The win is also the first for the Cobbers over the Gusties since 2000. In those 10 losses, Concordia had only scored one time. CC is now 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the MIAC. The loss ends the Gusties' two-game unbeaten streak. GAC falls under the .500 mark for the season. They are now 2-3-1 in all games and 0-1-1 in league play.

The game was the feature athletic event of the Family Weekend Celebration and it brought out a record-setting crowd. Concordia was able to take advantage of the energy in Jake Christiansen Stadium. The Cobbers controlled play in the early going and were rewarded in the 29th minute. Senior midfielder Alex Dahl won control of the ball at the top of the penalty area after a botched clearing attempt. Dahl then poked the ball to McGlynn who got behind the GAC defense. McGlynn, the league's top scorer, calmly slid the ball into the back of the net at 28:43.

The score would stay in favor of the Cobbers through the halftime break and then in the first eight minutes of the second half. Gustavus would come up with the equalizer when Chris Adams ran onto a cross from Justin Egleseder and knocked the ball just inside the right post.

Concordia had a pair of chances around the 70-minute mark. The best chance came when freshman Matt Glogoza went clear on a breakaway but his shot was right at Gustavus keeper Steve Lundberg.

McGlynn stepped up in the final five minutes of play when he once again got behind the Gustie defense and flick-headed a shot behind Lundberg. The play was set up in the middle of the field by CC midfielders Marco Riboli and Philip Bruckbauer. Riboli won the ball and laid it off to Bruckbauer who then hit a diagonal cross into the GAC penalty where McGlynn finished off the play.

For McGlynn it was his MIAC-leading sixth goal of the season. McGlynn has now scored 12 goals in his last 15 games in a streak that dates back to last season. Riboli earned his team-leading sixth assist of the season and now has 30 in his career. He is now six away from the No.2 spot on the Cobber all-time assist list.

The game was very even on the scoresheet. Gustavus held a 12-11 edge in total shots while the Cobbers had a 6-5 margin in shots on goal. Concordia also held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. CC goalie Peter Runquist made four saves to earn his third win of the season. Lundberg also made four stops and was saddled with his third loss of the year.

Concordia will host a non-conference game on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
