Gameday Game Recap

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (9/29/10)--Concordia's unbeaten streak is still alive but not in the fashion they were looking for. The Cobbers led 1-0 at the half at Bethel on Wednesday but then allowed a goal midway through the final period and had to settle for a 1-1 double overtime tie.

The tie pushes the Cobbers' unbeaten streak to five games and puts their record at 7-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAC. The Royals are now 2-6-2 in all games and 1-1-2 in league games.

The game was split into two different halves. Concordia controlled the opening 45 minutes but then sat back in the second half and watched as Bethel took advantage of the lackadaisical Cobbers. Alex Dahl put Concordia on the board when he notched his fourth goals of the season at 38:34. Riley McGlynn was credited with the assist on the play. CC outshot the Royals 13-8 in the first 45 minutes.

Bethel came out in the second half and took control of the period in the first minute. The Royals had a shot go wide in the first :44 seconds and then went on to get seven more shots in the half. They eventually tied the game in the 66th minute when Brian Holm scored on a dead ball play.

After a midfield battle in the first 10-minute overtime period, Concordia exploded for five shots in the second extra session. The Cobbers had the best opportunity in overtime but McGlynn's shot from inside the six-yard box at 108:45 sailed over the crossbar.

Concordia outshot BU 26-19 in the game. It is the third time this season they have recorded over 25 shots in a game. Senior midfielder Marco Riboli led the way with seven shots.

Cobber keeper Peter Runquist made four saves in the game and Royal goalie Leif Sundberg stopped none shots.

Concordia will travel to Winona to take on St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
