TOURNAMENT RECAP
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (10/02/10)-- The annual MIAC/IIAC Border Battle Tournament has been very, very good to Concordia. The Cobbers continued their tear through the IIAC as they went 4-0 at this year's tournament at St. Ben's. The Cobbers lost only two games in their four matches. CC beat Luther 3-0 and Cornell 3-1 on Friday and then finished off their weekend by downing Wartburg 3-0 and Simpson 3-1 on Saturday.
No.20-ranked Concordia is now 26-2 in their seven appearances at the Border Battle Tournament. That is the most wins at the tourney by any school in the MIAC and IIAC - five more than the next closest competitor.
The Cobbers are now 16-4 overall in 2010 and have won 10 of their last 11 matches.
Concordia junior Katie Vohnoutka had an outstanding tournament. She had at least 13 kills in all four matches and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She finished the weekend with 60 kills, 20 blocks and 19 digs. Vohnoutka's best match came against Simpson where she had 17 kills against and 11 blocks.
Jenna Green had 46 kills in the four matches. She led the team in digs with 41 as she averaged a double-double for the tournament (11.5 kills/10.25 digs). Amy Sykora had 109 total assists for the weekend and helped captain a Cobber attack that hit .300 for the four matches and had 183 total kills.
The Cobber defense limited their opponents to a .131 hitting percentage and came up with 29.5 total blocks.
Concordia will move back to conference play when they host a weekend doubleheader. CC will square off against Carleton on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and then play St. Mary's on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m.
